Preamble

The Oracle/PLSQL MEDIAN function returns the expression median.

Oracle/PLSQL syntax of MEDIAN function

MEDIAN( expression_id ) [ OVER ( query partition clause ) ]

Parameters and function arguments

• expression_id – this value is used to calculate the median.

The MEDIAN function returns a numeric value or a date value.

MEDIAN is new to Oracle 10! In older versions of Oracle, try using the PERCENTILE_CONT function to calculate the average value.

In the SQL query, it will return the average salary for all employees in the marketing department.
