Preamble
The Oracle/PLSQL VSIZE function returns the length in bytes for the internal representation of the expression.
Syntax of the Oracle/PLSQL VSIZE function
VSIZE( expression_id )
Parameters and function arguments
- expression_id – the expression whose length will be returned by the function.
Note:
The VSIZE function returns a numeric value.
If the expression is NULL, the VSIZE function returns NULL.
The VSIZE function can be used in the following Oracle/PLSQL versions

SQL> SELECT VSIZE(null) FROM DUAL;
--Result: NULL
SQL> SELECT VSIZE('') FROM DUAL;
--Result: NULL
SQL> SELECT VSIZE(' ') FROM DUAL;
--Result: 1
