SELECT SYSDATE
FROM DUAL;
-Result 01.08.2014 9:36:11
If you want to extract only the date (exclude the time component), you can use the TO_CHAR function.
SELECT TO_CHAR(SYSDATE, 'DD.MM.YYYY').
FROM DUAL;
-Result 01.08.2014
